About Us

The 2nd St Clears Scout Group is currently made up of Beaver, Cub and Scout sections. The group was originally registered in December 1976 and the group then celebrated its 40th year back in 2016.

The meetings first took place in the Town Hall, shortly followed by the Church Hall next to Capel Mair. However, it was clear the group needed its own hall. So, the group undertook vital fund raising which was heavily supported by the local communities and by the mid-80’s the group had raised enough money to purchase a wooden hut from the SAS for £16,000. The hut was first erected in Banc Y Beily but was destroyed by a fire. Nevertheless, it was insured and the Juvenile Sports Committee gave a plot of land next to the leisure centre and our current hut was erected under a government scheme by a foreman and six young apprentices learning their trades.

Our current hall was opened by Former Chief Commissioner of Wales, Francis Dunford, on 29th April 1989. During this 2 Medals of Merit were awarded. One to Harcourt John for his services to Scouting who retired as Group Scout Leader in 1988 and also to Ray Steel who had taken over as acting Group Scout Leader (who became a Scout back in 1954 and started his leadership roles in 1962). Ray (aka Skip – our current Beaver Leader) held the role for 23 years before stepping down in April 2013. A number of people had stepped in and out of the role over the years after this before our current Group Scout Leader, Owain Grant, recently stepped into the role.

We have many long-standing members of 2nd St Clears Scout Group. We have been well served over the years by Anne John, Jan Griffiths, Martin Harry and Paul Ford (who was once a Cub in the group), all who had been supported by their various Assistant Cub Scout Leaders. Sue Holland also took over from Rosemary Twose as Scout Leader and has been a member of the group for many years.

The group now has a stable leadership team and is thriving in all 3 sections and we hope this will continue for many more years to come.

As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage our young people to do more, learn more and be more.

Each week, we give over 460,000 young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future. We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians.

We believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance, always. We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.

By 2023, as part of the scouting movement, we will have played our part to prepare more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme. We will be growing, more inclusive, shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities.
