Scouts  11-14 years old

About Scouts

The Scout troop is the 3rd section in our group for children aged 10 to 14. Most of our Scouts have previously been in Beavers and Cubs so progress into Scouts when they become to old for Cubs.

Being involved in our Scout section allows us to help the scouts develop their confidence, sense of adventure and new and existing skills including in the outdoors. It also offers them the chance to be more independent and put their skills and knowledge to the test on camps and during meetings. All of our Scouts are encouraged to work as a team, to develop their leadership skills and help in their community.

Structure:

A Scout troop is divided into smaller groups we know as patrols. Each of the patrols are lead by an older scout known as a patrol leader and most patrols will also have an assistant patrol leader

Badges

Just Like our Beaver and Cub sections, the Scouts have plenty of opportunity to develop or learn new skills and eartn a few badges along the way. The Scouts have 3 different types of badges:- Challenge badges, activity badges and staged activity badges. The Scouts have 8 challenge badges to earnand if they achieve them all will be presented the highest badge in scouts , the Gold Chief Scouts award. The challenge badges are : Adventure challenge, Creative challenge, Expedition challenge, Outdoor challenge, Personal challenge, Skills challenge, Team leader challenge and world challenge. there are about 60 activities  in total. These are one of badges with several steps to meet the criteria to achieve the badge.  Some of the badges include DIY activity badge, Fundraising Badge, International activity badge, and Writer activity badge. Similarly to other sections the scouts have 15 staged activity badges which could have up to 6 different stages. the Scout will then receive a badge for each stage of the badge they complete. Some of these badges include Paddle sports, Swimmer,Musician and Nights away. All the badges and the criteria for those who would like to work on any badges at home can be found on the scouts website.
